This past weekend we had the chance to experience the finest local food products in the province of Malaga, all under one roof. “Discover the taste of our land” was the slogan and the third edition of “Sabor a Malaga” held in Plaza de Toros in Malagueta, was a great success. More than 20.000 visitors and 87 small businesses from the region (mostly family owned) exchanged money for great (I mean GREAT) local products: “flowerfull” honey, sun kissed olive oil, artisanal cheeses, herbs marinated olives, organic fruit and vegetables, local wines and beer, dried fruit and homemade bread, just a short list of what a real Mediterranean diet recommends. If there is something Spaniards outshine at, is organizing fairs and events and this show was a good example of what they can do. Apart food tasting and purchasing, the event offered workshops, cooking demonstrations performed by famous chefs, live music, and children activities. The star of the show  presented Saturday evening, was a bread made of organic flour, sourdough and pure edible gold flakes coating the crust. Can’t say it was a bargain at €117 a piece but hey, I’m sure there are plenty of interested people out there ready to spend the small fortune for it. At least, congratulations to the original baker who by the way sold us the best 8 grains €3.90 whole wheat bread.

Avocado, rosemary, thyme, chestnut , eucalyptus honey anyone?
