Strawberry Margarita

 “Let me take you down
Cause I’m going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever” (Beatles)

We had an exceptional strawberry season this year. So sweet, so perfumed and so beautiful to look at, gobble and photograph.  I mean the strawberries, not the season. We are fortunate enough to live not too far from Almeria, the place where John Lennon wrote his famous “Strawberry fields” and this is one of the reasons  why strawberry season here in Malaga is long, sweet and fragrant. SWEET. The beautiful and tasty fruits are picked freshly and in just a couple of hours hit the local markets  for the shoppers to take them home. The strawberries,  don’t spend days and days  across the continent in the back of a truck getting ripen. We decided one evening last week to pamper our taste buds with some strawberry Margarita so we can better enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace and the warm afternoon. Here is our concoction we developed over the last years:

Ingredients:

Ice (about 1 to 2 cups ice cubes) -depends on each one’s taste

10 to 12 large fresh ripped SWEET strawberries

5 ounces good-quality tequila

1 1/2 ounces fresh-squeezed lime or lemon juice

2 ounces Triple Sec

Sugar, for rimming the glass (if you fancy it)

Whole fresh strawberries for garnish

Preparation:

Wash, dry, and hull the strawberries.

Fill the blender half-full with ice (the ice must be the first thing we put in the blender)

Add the strawberries, tequila, lime juice, and Tripe Sec; blend until smooth.

Pour into the Margarita Glasses rimmed with coarse sugar.

Garnish with a whole strawberry and a lime slice (optional).

Strawberry Margarita ready to serve!

Makes 2 to 3 serving (depending on each ones thirst).
