Many times we believe the little village we live in, Casabermeja,  is the most picturesque and peaceful place on earth.  Are we a little  biased? You bet we are. There are many things to see, talk about and taste in this “pueblo”  and one of the most  famous attractions here is “Zambra Tower”. The tower is situated just 4 kilometers from the village and  it was build  as a watch tower during XIII century by the Arabs and today, thanks to careful restoration and maintenance still stands up remarkable in a beautiful natural park.

Apart from its undoubted historical value,  at the end of a mile and a half hike up the hill you are rewarded with one of the largest panoramic views in the province, with breathtaking  sight of Mediterranean Sea to the South,  Africa in clear days and Granada Mountains to the North. Celebrity writers as Miguel Cervantes and Vicente Espinel described the panoramic views in their literary works, “The lawyer of glass” and “Marcos de Obregon“.

Torre Zambra is a so called “torre vigia“, a guard tower, that had multiple functions: on the one hand, it overlooked the entire surroundings, giving its crew the possibility to efficiently control a huge area. On the other hand, it was part of a very modern communication systems that linked Malaga with its capital in those days, Cordoba. Instead of several days by horse courier, information would be relayed to Cordoba in as less than 90 minutes. That was fast for a distance of 100 miles! How did it work? Well, they had an entire net of watch towers, and they would transmit the information by light signals. Smart.
